Hi, I’m Bunmi Okon and I run the Sewing Studio in Borehamwood.
It’s a full-on task, and I’m loving it. We’ve a brilliant team here (Hi Lydia! Hi Nanny Pat!) and we’re always busy. I love teaching the classes: anyone can learn to sew, and it’s amazing what a kick you can get out of making something. The kids (we teach them from 8+) – they’re so creative. They never stop laughing and chatting, but they’re always keen to finish their projects. You’ll have seen them sporting their backpacks to school. And the teens? We start with a basic design, and the variations they come up with just blow me away.
We’ve adults and seniors classes, at all levels, and some of our students just drop in for a chat – then get drawn in. Don’t know if you’ve seen it on the Sewing Bee, but sewists are really supportive. We leave that shouty competitive stuff to the chefs – sewists help each other out. So even on the rare moments I’m on my own in the studio, working on a made-to-measure commission, you can bet someone’ll drop by.
Did you make that?
I gotta be honest and say I don’t have time to make much for myself anymore. But the beautiful dresses I get to make for our bespoke customers – and how fabulous they look in them kinda makes up for it.
Drop in, say hi, join a class. I’d love to see you.
